Open the following application from CCM: LHC Equipment Control ==> Beam Instrumentation ==> BPM Synchronous Orbit Settings

This opens a "LHC injection sequencer-like" application, Figure 1, but with all the functionality removed except the needed buttons:

  • Show filter, clear filter, Display, TEST Display bpms buck, TEST set bpms buck

(Clear bch conf still works, please do not click on it)

The steps to follow are the following:

1. Select the injection filling schema that you are going to use for the next fill

2. Click on Display

3. Click on TEST Display bpms buck. This will analyse the filling pattern and try to find the bunches WITHOUT ANY long range interaction and display for you the result (Figure 2). If the beams are pPb or Pbp, it only matters the beam with the ion spece, which is the one that will be set to synchronous orbit. If the filling schema only contains bunches with long range interactions, you'll get a pop up that says so and that the filling schema is not adecuate for synchronous orbit. So far, we only manage to make the synchronous orbit work with bunches that do not have any long range.

4. If you are happy with the result, then click the next button "TEST set bpms buck", this will set the strip line BPMs with the bunches proposed by the pop up before.

2. How to set/unset the OFB with the synchronous orbit

Open trim application and load as in the Figure 3:

1. "Pure IR orbit on all BPMs" to remove the synchronous orbit from the OFB

2. "B1 commons BPMs FORCED to synchronous orbit" to force B1 strip line BPMs to synchro orbit

3. "B2 commons BPMs FORCED to synchronous orbit" to force B1 strip line BPMs to synchro orbit
